Date: Squirrels, Beavers & Cubs Saturday 20th April 2024
Scouts & Explorers Sunday 21st April 2024
Location: Gilwell Park
Arrival and Departure times
We have 100s of young people attending the event so Arrivals and Departures will be staggered so that the site can cope with the expected level of traffic. Your leaders will advise you of your group time.
Kit List
A small day sack containing:
- Packed lunch
- Water Bottle
- A pair of indoor shoes for climbing (muddy outdoor shoes will make climbing dangerous)
- A small amount of money in change (please no notes). The Gilwell ‘Tuck Shop’ will be open and we hope to have a number of fairground type games the Young People can play to raise money for charity.
- Personal medications
Uniform and Fancy Dress
There is no need to wear full uniform on the day but please wear your Group Scarves. Clothing should be appropriate for the weather and outdoor activities.
The theme for the event is The Environment and dressing up is encouraged as follows:
- Saturday – Dress up as insects, animals, flowers, trees etc.
- Sunday – Suggest a more ‘festival’ vibe to the costumes.
It is likely to be muddy in April so Wellies are likely to be recommended.
Contact Details
If you have any questions or are running late DO NOT contact Gilwell Park as they will not be able to help you. Contact your leaders directly. Latecomers will need to be collected from the event car park by your leaders. All groups will manage their own In Touch process.
First Aid and Young Person Medical Details
All leaders will carry a small First Aid kit so they can deal with minor issues in their group. There is a permanent First Aid point for serious injuries. Young People with complex medical needs will be identified to the First Aid team at the start of the event.
Transport and Parking
Due to the high number of attendees at this event we strongly recommend car sharing for dropping off / collecting young people. There will be a one-way system in place at Gilwell Park – the entrance will be the rear gate, please follow the signs from the front gate.
Parents may NOT leave the car park area and wander into Gilwell Park itself. In the morning a ‘drop and go’ system will be in place and in the afternoon parents will park and collect from the muster point in the car park. Please follow the traffic marshals instructions at all times.
Photography and Videos
Redbridge Scout District personnel may take still or video images of Young People during the day to produce publicity material for the District. This material may be used on Redbridge District public facing media channels; including but not exclusively the website, Facebook page and YouTube. Images will be stored securely within Redbridge District Google G Suite storage and managed in accordance with its Privacy and GDPR policy.
In keeping with Scout safeguarding principles, individual Scouts are not identified in associated captions or text without the consent of parents / guardians.
Leaders in other Scout groups may take still or video imagery of their own members for use within their own groups according to their own privacy and GDPR policies. In general these images will feature members of their own group but in a large scale events such as DAD other group’s members will inevitably feature in the background of such imagery.
